Answers to your questions.
What is the difference between a template and a customised design?
A template-based design offers you pre-defined boxes to add your content into. A pre-defined template can closely match what you need and then customisations with colours, images and layout can be made.
In a custom designed website, every element of the website is custom designed to fit your needs. With a custom web design it is created just for your business. Your website will be different from anyone else’s.
You need to consider what type of website you want, the functionality required, upfront costs and post-implementation costs.
Can I have my own custom domain?
You can leverage an existing domain name, or start from scratch and find the perfect new one!
Your domain name is one of the most important decisions you can make before going online. We can assist with transferring an existing domain name or the selection, purchase and setup of your new domain name for your new website.
CONSIDERATIONS: Many hosting companies include a domain name when you purchase one of their hosting packages. Beware, as this may only be valid for a year or sometimes just for the life of your hosting package (what happens/costs will you need to pay if you want to change hosting companies?). Please discuss these options with us before purchasing a domain name.
* Purchase of a domain name is not included in any of the packages.
Can you organise my website hosting?
Selecting a hosting company for your new website is an important decision. The cheapest is not always the best choice. There are so many factors involved but some of the key considerations are but not limited to:
- Know Your Hosting Needs including what kind of website are you building and how big (or small) can your web traffic volume go in the next 12 months?
- Server reliability and uptime guarantees
- Hosting upgrade options
- Sign up prices vs renewal prices
- Essential hosting features
- eCommerce features and support
- Control panel
- Account limitations
- Email hosting
- Site backup
- Server responsiveness
Please discuss with us first before signing up for any hosting packages!
* Hosting Fees are not included in any of the packages.
What is a plugin and what standard plugins are included?
All our websites are powered by WordPress which runs 30% of the entire internet (around 19,500,000 websites on the web use WordPress).
WordPress websites require some plugins to add new functionality to your website or extend existing functionality on your site. We include five standard plugins on all our sites (minimum).
- Enable the fastest, easiest and best-performing image compression.
- Protect for your website from hacks and malware.
- Optimise and accelerate the performance of your website.
- Cache your content for faster load times for visitors to your website.
- Implement basic SEO and advanced XML Sitemaps functionality.
Can I add more plugins?
Depending on the package selected, you can add more plugins to increase your website functionality and add more exciting features.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The more plugins you have installed on your website, the slower it may potentially run. Adding new features and functionality to your website is bound to have some sort of effect over time on the performance, usability, security, and reliability of your site. To avoid problems we only use credible and well-established plugins that are regularly updated.
What pages should I include and can I add additional pages?
You need to plan how many pages your website actually needs upfront. Most websites have the following as a minimum:
- About Us
- Products and Services
Once your website is LIVE you can still add more pages. You are not limited to the number of pages but you must consider the navigation and overall customer experience as too many pages can become overwhelming.
Your website should have as many pages as it needs as long as they are all good and serve a purpose.
* A COMING SOON Page and an ERROR 404 Page are included with all packages and do not count towards your available pages.
What is Email Subscription Integration?
Do you want to communicate with your customers? To do this you need to build and manage an email list. When a customer or potential customer visits your website give them the option to sign up for your newsletter or mailing list.
You need to be able to capture your customers’ details when they sign up. This is done by integrating your website (and sign-up form) with one of many email marketing platforms such as MailChimp, Campaign Monitor, Constant Contact, AWeber, ActiveCampaign etc.
Once someone signs up you can then communicate with them via email about your latest product and service offerings, special discounts, promotions, general news updates, special announcements etc that may be relevant to them.
We can assist with setting this up on your website as well as helping you design email campaigns, campaign-specific landing pages as well as track your results, view detailed analytics related to your email campaigns, managed unsubscribes and changes.
What is Mobile Responsive Design?
When a website is responsive, it automatically changes to fit the device you’re reading it on.
Responsive Web Design automatically resizes, hides, shrinks, or enlarges, a website, to make it look good on all devices (desktops, tablets, and phones).
- A website needs to be user-friendly on a smartphone.
- 80% of internet users own a smartphone.
- According to Google, over 60% of searches online now come from a mobile device.
All websites designed by us are mobile responsive.
What is a revision and how many revisions can I have before my website is LIVE?
In the initial design stage, you will need to provide the copy (text), any photos and images. Once a design draft of your new website is presented, you will have an agreed amount of time to provide your feedback. Once all your comments, ideas and questions are consolidated and we provide a new version, that’s the end of that round of revision.
All packages include a number of revisions. Additional revisions can be discussed and we accommodate any reasonable request. However, once we’ve completed the agreed upon rounds of revisions any subsequent ones will be charged hourly.
NOTE: We can assist with copy and the procurement of photos and images.
Will I be able to add more content?
All our packages include a blog which enables you to create your own posts (training provided). Only the Ultimate Package gives you the ability to create additional pages, add more content, products and services.
Once your website is LIVE you can only change content as part of our monthly maintenance add-ons or you can pay-as-you-go for additional changes.
What image galleries can I include?
Dedicated image galleries are included in our Premium and Ultimate Packages only. An image gallery can be added to our Value and Plus Packages for an additional cost.
What is SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) and is it included?
Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of affecting the online visibility of a website or a web page in a web search engine’s unpaid results—often referred to as “natural”, “organic”, or “earned” results (Wikipedia).
To optimise your website for the search engines, we always include the following must-haves in all our packages:
- We use quality page titles and meta descriptions on all your pages which improves the quality and quantity of your search traffic and helps search engines and users know what your page is about.
- Editable, Search Engine Friendly URL Structure.
- Focus Keywords are the search term that you most want your page to rank for, so when people search for that keyword or phrase, they should find you.
- Image Titles and Alt Attributes of any image on your site should describe what’s on it. Screen readers for the blind and visually impaired will read out this text and therefore make your image accessible.
- Optimised Images for better rankings, to help reduce bounce rates, improve your sites page speed and performance, and generate more traffic from image-based search engines.
- Dynamic XML sitemaps to speed up indexing.
- Optimisation for the most recent Google algorithm.
- Custom 404 Page.
- Mobile Responsiveness (we test all pages and then submit to Google).
- Site speed is a very important Google ranking factor.
- 301 Redirects from one URL to another when required.
Our Ultimate Package includes the above plus more in-depth SEO based on your individual requirements including (but not limited to):
- Automatic XML Sitemaps Generation.
- Breadcrumb Navigation for more complex sites.
- Further Keyword Optimization – You can pick up to 5 focus keywords. These are the keywords you’d like your post or page to rank for in the search results.
Can I add online payments?
Online Payments are an option. eCommerce can be added to all packages at a negotiated cost depending on the functionality required and complexity.
What training is included in my package?
All our packages include training on how to add a post to your blog. Our Ultimate Package includes customised training to suit your business and website requirements/functionality.
Additional training can be organised to suit your individual requirements for an additional cost.
Please explain the process involved in design and developing my new website.
The first step in designing a new website or upgrading an existing one is to discuss your goals and objectives. Why do you want a website, what do you want to achieve? The consulting process enables us to learn more about your business, products, services, target audiences, messages, competitors as well as agree on all your requirements and expectations before we can provide a proposal. We want you to have a successful and amazing website that reflects your brand, ensures that you can be found by search engines and inspires potential customers to contact you.
The planning stage of a new website is crucial to ensure that all expectations are met and that nothing is left out of the project scope. This stage will include a site map that shows the pages and relationships between the pages, a wireframe or mock-up to show the location of all the elements on a page and then sign off to start the coding and design of your website.
The design phase is where your website takes shapes. This is where we work together to create the visual look and feel and demonstrate the basic functionality. At this stage review and feedback are important and should continue until you are completely satisfied before moving on to content writing, assembly, coding, SEO, testing, reviewing and finally the BIG LAUNCH!
You can have the best website but if no-one can find you then you will not be able to showcase your brand, products or services to potential customers. Part of developing your new website is Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). Your website should include meta tag setup (keywords, descriptions and phrases), constant analysis, sitemap creation for search engines to crawl and submitting your URL to search engines and directories on a regular basis. SEO is an ongoing process and without this service, your sites ranking in search engine results will slip down.
You have just launched your new website but that’s not the end. Websites need constant care and maintenance. What is a maintenance plan and do you need one? Websites need continual content updates to keep content fresh, as well as back-end system updates to prevent bugs and decrease security risks. Updates also include links checked, detection of possible problems with the customer-facing pages and immediate fixes so your website is not offline and your potential customer goes to another website, analytics & site visit reports as well as ongoing staff training and a regular BACKUP of your website. vBusiness offers ongoing maintenance plans that give you the security of knowing your website is professionally maintained.
Once your website is complete you need to continue to update your content. Keeping your website up to date is one of the most important ways to attract new customers. Without new content, your website can quickly become outdated. To make this process easier we can put in place a training program so you can add content, post to a blog, update a product etc or we can do it for you.
